SPRINGFIELD — A police sergeant and a firefighter were injured when their vehicles collided while heading to a scene where a man had jumped from the North End Bridge on Monday evening.

The victim was rescued from the Connecticut River by firefighters but later died at Baystate Medical Center, said Fire Capt. Drew Piemonte.

The crash took place at about 4:35 p.m. at Spring and Pearl streets. Both emergency vehicles had their lights and sirens on, and were heading to the same scene, said Piemonte and Ryan Walsh, police spokesman.
