ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Conyers police lieutenant has been arrested after he allegedly took donated property that was supposed to go to the department.

Jesus Cadena, 36, faces a charge of theft by deception. He turned himself in to Rockdale County Jail on Tuesday after being notified of his arrest warrant.

Cadena allegedly used his position to receive an unknown charitable donation from The Home Depot, with the promise that it would benefit the police department.

While searching Cadena’s Gwinnett County home, investigators said they found the property, which Cadena had been using for himself.

Conyers police asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to look into the situation in October. The department has also launched a separate internal investigation.
