Edgewood, KY —
Kentucky is experiencing an alarming increase in whooping cough cases, with low vaccination rates contributing to the spread of the disease, which is particularly dangerous to young children.
Pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, has claimed the life of another infant in the state, marking the third such death in the past 12 months. Health officials in Frankfort announced the most recent death yesterday, noting that the state has not seen such a high level of the disease since 2012. Advertisement
Dr. Robert Tracy, a family physician at Saint Elizabeth in Northern Kentucky, expressed concern about the rising rates of whooping cough, especially with the holiday travel season approaching.
"It is alarming, especially since we haven't had a death since 2018," Tracy
