As residents of the towns of Westerly & Stonington know, our respective High School’s Annual Thanksgiving Day Football game between the Bulldogs & Bears is one of, if not the, biggest event of the year in our communities.
It’s renown stretches across both the states of Rhode Island & Connecticut, and at times, has even been featured on national news outlets.
Even by those lofty standards, this year’s contest should be even more in the spotlight. In an almost unbelievable occurrence, if Westerly were to win, the all time series between the two teams would stand at an all time tie.
The schools would be dead locked at 74-74-17 after 114 years & 165 games. Not only is this rivalry the most played by number of games in the country, it would be hard to argue that it’s not the most competitive
