A former Harrisburg police officer who sued the city over claims she was passed over for promotions because of her gender has settled her lawsuit with the city.
Harrisburg agreed to pay $22,500 to Teresa Covey to drop her claims against the city. Her attorneys at Marzzacco, Niven & Associates will be paid $8,375 of that. The city admits to no wrongdoing, per the settlement agreement.
Covey, 58, sued Harrisburg last year claiming the city passed over her for several promotions until finally, she retired from the department.
She brought claims under the 1964 Civil Rights Act and under the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.
Covey, an avid motorcyclist, tried to get a position as a police motorcycle officer. She first tried in April 2016, but didn’t hear back. She followed up in 2017, but
