After missing the past 10 games, San Antonio Spurs rookie guard Dylan Harper appears to be nearing a return to the court, according to the latest update provided by the team.
Harper sustained a left calf strain in a loss to the Phoenix Suns on Nov. 2 after attempting to defend a layup attempt by Nick Richards. He left the arena on crutches in a walking boot and was expected to miss "multiple weeks" with the injury.
The Spurs have listed Harper as questionable to play in their next contest against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday. His status will likely be determined closer to tip-off after going through a pregame warm-up in Portland.
Harper is averaging 14 points, four rebounds and 3.8 assists on 35.7% shooting from 3-point range in six appearances with the Spurs. He is fifth among all rookies in scoring average and is one of 10 first-year players to score at least 20 points in a game this season.
The 19-year-old emerged as a key player in the backcourt off the bench for coach Mitch Johnson to start the season. He has provided the unit with scoring and the ability to impact games on the defensive end of the court, putting together several key stops in the early going.
The Spurs (11-5) have managed to stay afloat, with Victor Wembanyama (calf), Stephon Castle (hip) and Harper sidelined with injuries. The group will certainly be eager to welcome Harper back into the mix after a minor setback in the first month of the season.
