ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Georgians can now use digital driver’s licenses to buy alcohol and tobacco at participating businesses across the state.
The digital licenses, also known as mobile driver’s licenses, are issued by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) and stored on your phone.
DDS said the licenses can now be accepted as a valid form of ID to purchase age-restricted items. The department, though, said it’s up to individual stores whether to accept the licenses.
The announcement comes after the Georgia Department of Revenue Alcohol and Tobacco Division recently confirmed that digital driver’s licenses “are a valid and acceptable form of identification for alcohol and tobacco retailers,” according to DDS.
