BILLINGS, Mont. – Residents in Billings are expressing frustration over unexpected increases in their water bills. In 2024, city governments in Bozeman, Missoula, Great Falls and Billings approved rate increases for residential water users, citing inflation and operational costs.

For Billings residents, higher bills began arriving in summer 2024, leading to confusion and concern.

Ed Johnston, a local resident, shared his experience with water bill charges that seemed inexplicable.

"How many countless other people around the city who looked at a bill and said, gosh, this makes no sense, but I don't want my water turned off. I guess I have to pay it," Johnston said.
