Feminist group #NousToutes gathered outside the Panthéon on Tuesday evening as new figures showed a continued rise in femicides and gender-based violence in France.
According to organisers, 152 femicides have been recorded so far this year, compared with 141 in December 2024.
Activists unfurled a 20-meter banner listing the 1,183 names and ages of women and girls killed since May 2017. Messages were also projected onto the façade of the Panthéon.
Célia Lévy, 59, a member of #NousToutes said she believes more should be done to prevent violence against women.
"Every two minutes, a woman is a victim of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault," Lévy said.
"Violence against women and children is omnipresent in our society."
#NousToutes renewed calls for femicide to be defined in the French penal code, for an annual budget of €3 billion, and for a parliamentary inquiry into institutional failures.
