Northern Nevada teams dominated at the high school football state championship games today at Allegiant Stadium.

McQueen of Reno upset previously unbeaten Sloan Canyon 27-20 to claim the Class 4A title. Sloan Canyon had been barely challenged all season, including a lopsided victory against Class 5A Foothill, making McQueen’s victory a significant surprise.

McQueen jumped out to an early lead, scoring the game’s first two touchdowns. Sloan Canyon battled back to take a 21-13 advantage on a Cade Hoshino touchdown pass to Justice Hutchins, but McQueen responded with 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to capture its first state title since 2008.

Hoshino finished with three touchdown passes, also connecting with Jerome Johnson and Brandon Quaglio.
