OMAHA, Neb. —
Omaha Public Schools looks at data from the state to work toward school improvement. But what does that data show, and what does improvement actually look like?
From second graders learning structured literacy to whole group reading in fourth grade classrooms, the staff at Indian Hill Elementary works toward improvement every day.
"We want students to be reading, writing and listening and speaking in every lesson and in every content area," Indian Hill Principal Abbie Vlcek said.
Data from the state department of education show the percentages of students proficient in different areas.
In the 2021-22 school year, 9% were proficient in English Language Arts. Six percent were proficient in math. Twenty percent were proficient in science.
