EUGENE — Dan Lanning saw “a lot more pros than cons” to Oregon playing in last year’s Big Ten Championship game. The possibility of the Ducks getting to defend their title in Indianapolis may not be as enticing this year.
No. 6 Oregon (10-1, 7-1 Big Ten) can effectively clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff by beating Washington on Saturday (12:30 p.m., CBS). A loss would at least jeopardize that possibility, though not necessarily guarantee the Ducks would drop out of the playoffs.
UO can also earn a berth in the Big Ten title game, but needs No. 15 Michigan to beat No. 1 Ohio State. Lanning wouldn’t say whether he still sees the opportunity to play for a conference championship, and likely first-round bye in the playoffs, as advantageous.
