On Wednesday at 12:38 a.m. a lake effect snow warning was issued by the National Weather Service valid from Thursday 4 p.m. until Saturday 1 a.m. for Herkimer and Hamilton counties.
"Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches in the most persistent lake effect bands. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph," adds the weather service. "The lake effect snow band will set up across areas along and north of Route 28 late Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening before slowly dropping southward Thursday night into Friday morning. Additional upslope snow showers will continue on Friday before tapering off Friday night."
