HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -A Waialua man is as amazed as everyone else that he is almost fully recovered after he nearly drowned at Paradise Cove earlier this month.
“I’m just happy to be alive,” said Daniel Layug, 23, who recently woke up after spending five days in a coma. “Very shocking to be here.”
The Mililani High graduate said it was only his second time spearfishing with a few friends when he grew tired and swam towards shore, but lost his fin.
“I was just freaked out, I panicked, and then all I remember was going up, calling out for help, and then it went all blank after that,” Layug recalled.
After Layug’s friends found him on the ocean floor, they called for help.
