Farmers defied a tractor ban to descend on Downing Street in a Budget Day protest over inheritance tax.

Farmers drove their vehicles, some draped in Union Flags and St George's Crosses, to London despite Metropolitan Police restrictions preventing tractors and agricultural machinery from Whitehall.

A tractor was parked outside Parliament bearing the slogan "Fools vote Labour” and more tractors were seen driving through Westminster, with police stopping around 20 of them.

One was parked on Whitehall before police officers intervened.

Farmers have since parked more than a dozen tractors around Trafalgar Square. They repeatedly sounded their horns while police stood watching, with rush-hour traffic brought to a standstill.
