Unpaid carers have spoken out over their heartbreaking ordeals at the hands of the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) as a damning report and review into the Carer's Allowance scandal is released from Liz Sayce.
Vivienne Groom is among the unpaid carers being persecuted, and has spoken out to the Guardian. She received the DWP benefit for looking after her mum.
But Ms Groom was accused by the government of unlawfully claiming nearly £17,000 in carer’s allowance. She says she was told by the DWP she faced jail for benefit fraud.

And a DWP solicitor said it was her “word against theirs and that any record of this call had probably got lost in the system”.
