Social Security payments for December are about to be sent to recipients ahead of January's scheduled cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) .

Benefits will be paid as usual in December, following the government shutdown that lasted from October to mid-November. Social Security typically pays benefits on Wednesdays, with the first wave of payments going out on the second Wednesday of the month, Dec. 10.

Subsequent payments will go out on the third (Dec. 17) and fourth (Dec. 24) Wednesdays of the month, according to the Social Security Administration’s calendar .

Those who get Supplemental Security Income checks will receive their December check on the first of the month.

As of October, recipients must use either direct deposit or a Direct Express card to receive their payments. T
