Calls for DWP to make a change

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has been asked to evaluate the potential benefits of allowing older people with 'significant mobility needs' on Attendance Allowance to use the Motability Scheme. Unlike Personal Independence Payment ( PIP ), Attendance Allowance does not include a mobility component.

Those who receive the higher rate of the PIP mobility component can use some or all of this payment to lease a new car, wheelchair-accessible vehicle, scooter or powered wheelchair through the Motability Scheme. Currently, there are 815,000 people across the UK using the scheme, reports the Daily Record .
