Former NBA forward Rick Fox , who won three NBA titles during his 13-season career, announced Tuesday on Facebook that he is running for a legislative position in the Bahamas in the country’s 2026 general election.

Fox was born in Toronto but has deep ties to the Bahamas through his father and spent part of his childhood in Nassau, the capital, before moving to the United States to play high school basketball in Indiana.

“For months, I’ve been listening closely to the hopes and frustrations of my fellow Bahamians,” Fox said in his announcement. “One truth is clear: the future of the Bahamas will depend on the choices we make right now.”

Fox said he wanted to bring more transparency, a modern economy that prioritizes affordability and security, and a country where opportunity is real
