ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI -- Otsego Public Schools has removed a book with LGBTQ+ characters from its curriculum.

Staff members requested the book, “A Plan for Pops,” which features two gay characters, be reviewed, said Holly McCaw, OPS communications director. The book was removed in early fall.

The school district also decided in the fall against adding two books about Islam to the first grade curriculum, McCaw said.

The books, “In My Mosque” by M.O. Yuksel and “Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns” by Hena Khan were included in the district’s updated curriculum from Units of Study in Reading , McCaw said.
