HOOD COUNTY, Texas — This month’s election brought no relief to tensions between a North Texas community and a nearby data center.

Residents in rural Hood County tried to create a new town to set noise and environmental rules on the area around that same crypto mining facility, but voters said no.

The group trying to address the crypto mining noise was very close to winning on election night. Just 34 votes kept them from creating a new town to set some rules, but that was in a race where only 138 voted. Now, they say they’re regrouping as the noise in their neighborhood continues, and they fear their problems are about to get worse.

“Certainly, we were disappointed,” said Cheryl Shadden, a resident who helped spearhead the effort to create a new town.
