MARPLE — Tristan Laing takes a lot of pride in being part of Cardinal O’Hara’s rise.

An All-Catholic League Red First Team selection, Laing has been a Lion since ninth grade. He stuck with it through rough times in 2022 when Mike Ewing took over a program that had fallen far from its glory days and hadn’t posted a winning campaign since 2018. Ewing made it clear the turnaround would take time.

Laing, who became a two-way starter as a sophomore, wanted in on the rebuild.

“Up until now, since I got here in the ninth grade, most people have talked down on us,” Laing said. “People always doubted us, usually in every big game we have played.”

This season, O’Hara is 10-4 and getting ready for the PIAA Class 4A semifinals, two wins from the program’s first state championship. The Lions face D
