SARATOGA SPRINGS - When fact and fiction collide, we are often presented with a fascinating story that translates well to the stage. Such is the case with the world premiere of iTheatre Saratoga’s “The Baker Street Adventuress.”
Written and starring Mary Hansen as Edith Meiser, the woman who had a true passion for Sherlock Holmes and tried doggedly along with her husband Tom McKnight to get the stories of Holmes to be aired on this relatively new-fangled medium called radio in 1929. It took Meiser quite a while, but by 1930, having pounded the pavement, she secured a sponsor, and NBC agreed to adapt the stories of Sherlock Holmes into a radio show. Interestingly, Holmes was at that time all but forgotten in America.
