WASHINGTON — A man is dead after a Metrobus driver ran over him Wednesday morning while reportedly lying in the street at the Minnesota Ave and Hayes St Northeast metro stop. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority also confirmed the crash to WUSA9, saying one of its buses "rolled over a person."

Sixth District officers responded to the crash at around 5:08 a.m.

Minnesota Avenue to Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue Northeast lanes reopened around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday after being shut down in both directions as the MPD Major Crash Unit worked to learn more about what happened.

Police did not immediately release information about why the man had been lying in the street.
