EAST GRAND FORKS – After decades of trying to obtain a parcel of land owned by the J.R. Simplot Company, current and former East Grand Forks city officials alike are hopeful that the land exchange between the city and Simplot will lead to future development.

City Administrator Reid Huttunen said the city would like for the property, located south of U.S. Highway 2 in East Grand Forks, to become a mixed-use residential and commercial space, and the hope is a developer will step forward to take over the property once the deal is finalized and other necessary improvements are made.

“There’s probably going to be some work the city will need to do to make sure that it’s got the right services and infrastructure to be able to supply to a developer,” he said.
