The Santa Maria High School Marching Saints are packed and ready for a trip to Chicago to participate in the Thanksgiving Day Parade after spending the past year organizing, fundraising and scheduling the trip.
Parents and students held a meeting recently to go over the final itinerary and how to pack for cold, and possibly snowy, weather.
While most students will enjoy time sleeping in, seeing family and friends for the holiday, and maybe even doing homework, the Marching Saints members have chosen to skip that part of their break this year for the once in a lifetime opportunity.
Days will be spent waking up early, walking around Chicago to various attractions, and being able to make music together to share with the nation, according to Saint Band and Choir Director Samantha Bunten.
