Some Lancaster County residents recently caught a glimpse of a rare bird that typically resides in and around the Caribbean region.
A gray kingbird has been seen hanging around Colerain Township over the past week or so. The bird’s normal habitat includes parts of Florida, Caribbean islands, and parts or eastern Central America and northern South America.
The gray kingbird is a type of flycatcher. It was recently spotted perching on farm equipment along Liberty Lane.
These sightings mark the first time a gray kingbird has ever been recorded in Lancaster County and only the third time in Pennsylvania, according to an email from Ted Nichols II, president of the Lancaster County Bird Club.
