The search to find a small plane that crashed into Lake Pontchartrain after disappearing from airspace near the New Orleans Lakefront Airport earlier this week took a tragic turn Tuesday afternoon when the aircraft’s owner said the two young pilots aboard were presumed dead .
The plane, a Cessna Skyhawk, and the man and woman inside of it had not been found by Wednesday morning.
Multiple agencies scoured the waters of Lake Pontchartrain in search of the plane after it was reported missing Monday evening. The plane departed from Gulfport, Mississippi for an instructional flight and disappeared about an hour later.
