BENNETT SPRING STATE PARK, Mo. (KY3) -A space heater may have started a fire that destroyed a camper and a vehicle at Bennett Spring State Park.

The Lebanon Rural Fire Protection District assisted Bennett Spring in fighting the fire Tuesday night. Everyone inside the camper made it out safely, according to a post on the Lebanon Rural Fire Protection District’s Facebook Page.

As temperatures drop, fire officials are reminding residents to use caution when operating space heaters.

Fire officials recommend following these safety guidelines:

Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn

Only use heaters with an automatic shutoff feature

Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet—never use extension cords or power strips

Place heaters on a flat, stable surface where they wo
