The Northern Health Region (NHR) has announced immediate changes to improve safety at Thompson General Hospital after nurses voted on Friday to “grey list” the facility over concerns about violence and security gaps.

The NHR confirmed that, effective December 1, they will restrict overnight building access and increase monitoring from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. The only public entrance during those hours will be through the Emergency Department. Stairwells and elevators will remain locked and accessible only to staff, with a combination of management and security officers monitoring compliance.
