Forecast strong winds across the region have prompted Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority to issue a shoreline safety bulletin.

An Environment Canada special weather statement and marine forecast gale warning is in effect, and strong winds are expected beginning late Wednesday afternoon, the authority said.

“Forecasts suggest that down on the Lake Erie shoreline, sustained wind speeds could exceed 60 km/h in the afternoon, with gusts possibly as high as 90 km/h,” it said.

“Most forecasts predict that winds will switch to a more westerly direction overnight into Thursday morning but remain strong,” the authority added.

Winds are then expected to switch more northwesterly and drop off Thursday night into Friday.
