WILKES-BARRE — A New Jersey man was sentenced in Luzerne County Court for trafficking heroin and disarming a Pennsylvania State Police trooper during a traffic stop in Wilkes-Barre in 2024.

Judge David W. Lupas sentenced Malik Amir Monroe, 45, of Irvington, to one year, eight months to five years in prison on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and disarming a law enforcement officer. Monroe pled guilty to the charges Feb. 26.

According to the criminal complaint:

A state trooper stopped a four-door Buick, driven by Monroe, with tinted windows while traveling on the North Cross Valley Expressway on Feb. 15, 2024. During the traffic stop, the trooper felt a bulge in Monroe’s waistband during a pat-down search.
