CHARLOTTE — The Panthers made moves to shore up their defense on Wednesday, adding a few familiar faces.

They signed linebacker Krys Barnes to the active roster from the practice squad, and signed cornerback Robert Rochell off the Cowboys practice squad. They also added cornerback David Long Jr. to the practice squad.

To make room for them on the roster, they placed rookie cornerback Corey Thornton on injured reserve and had another spot for the week with safety Tre'von Moehrig on the reserve/suspended list .

Barnes started at linebacker last week, the third and final elevation allowed from the practice squad. The veteran linebacker has played in 71 career games with 31 starts, including his time with the Packers and Cardinals. Against the 49ers on Monday, he had a team-high 10
