IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A Lake Norman High School coach is facing two misdemeanor charges after he reportedly hit a student in the head during wrestling practice when an altercation broke out last week.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office said it responded on Saturday, Nov. 22, to a hospital for a student who had reportedly been struck a day earlier by 36-year-old Stephen William Boyle. The student said Boyle repeatedly struck them in the head during the practice.

Detectives handled multiple interviews with witnesses and said they learned the student had been involved in an altercation with another student, and that Boyle had intervened. Boyle hit the student multiple times with his hand.
