On Nov. 26, 1922, the world of archeology scored the motherlode with the finding of King Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt. Archaeologist Howard Carter beat the odds and discovered the mostly-untouched tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun near the center of the crowded Pharaoh's graveyard, Valley of the Kings, west of the city of Thebes. Carter and his team first laid eyes on the forgotten King on Feb. 16, 1923, when they broke through the sealed door of his burial chamber.
