(CBS News) – It’s time for the annual Thanksgiving debate – turkey or ham?

Kelly O’Grady with CBS News has the story on the dinner table debate.

Turkey has long been the undisputed, heavyweight champion of Thanksgiving.

But now, another holiday underdog is making a play for the plate.

It’s ham.

According to a survey by Jennie-O, nearly 40% of Americans like to have ham on the table.

Greg Bardwell is a head butcher at “The Meat Hook” in Brooklyn, New York, where pork is front and center.

Bardwell says some positives of ham is it’s precooked, and you just have to slice it and heat it up, making it an easier preparation for the family.

In addition, carving a turkey can be a stressful feat for some people.
