Chief Petty Officer Ian Carey still credits JROTC high school instructor
Chief Petty Officer Ian Carey, a Phoenix native and 2012 Deer Valley High School graduate, serves the U.S. Navy assigned to Afloat Training Group San Diego, California.
The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in the Valley, he says.
“Participating in Air Force Junior ROTC instilled a healthy respect for the military as a teenager that stayed with me throughout adulthood,” Carey said.
Carey joined the Navy 13 years ago. Today, he serves as a fire controlman.
“I joined the Navy to see the world,” Carey said. “I always liked exploring as a kid, and the Navy gave me a way to see places I never would have been able to otherwise.”
