A 67-year-old MAX bus driver died Wednesday after his bus hit a Birmingham building.
The wreck happened at 6:51 a.m. in the 2800 block of 28th Avenue North.
The driver was taken to UAB Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is not yet releasing his name.
Four passengers on the bus were not injured.
“This is a devastating loss for our entire BJCTA family,” BJCTA said in a statement following the driver’s death.
“While the official cause of death has not yet been determined, early indications suggest a sudden medical emergency occurred while the operator was performing his duties.”
