NORTH ADAMS, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -- A 44-year-old North Adams man was arraigned Wednesday on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with a house fire that killed his parents early Monday morning.

Darius Hazard is accused of setting the fire that killed 83-year-old Donald Hazard and his 76-year-old wife, Venture, at their North Adams home. Hazard was arraigned at Northern Berkshire District Court and appeared behind glass wearing orange, one day after he was arraigned in Pittsfield on one count of arson.

According to court documents, at approximately 3 a.m. Monday, “Darius physically assaulted his parents at their home, leaving them incapacitated on the floor before pouring gasoline throughout the residence, lighting fire to it with a match, and fleeing the scene in his vehicle.” Once
