PERRY, Ohio — A house fire in Perry Village on Monday evening left two dogs dead and a firefighter with minor injuries, according to the Perry Joint Fire District.
Crews were dispatched around 5:44 p.m. to the area of Main Street and South Ridge Road for a smoke investigation, where first responders discovered an active fire at a home in the 4300 block of Main Street.
Heavy smoke and flames were visible inside the residence, officials said. Crews began interior suppression efforts and confirmed no occupants were home.
Two dogs that were inside died.
As firefighters advanced to the second floor, a partial collapse sent part of the upper level crashing into the first floor. Crews were ordered out of the building, shifting operations to a defensive strategy.
