She got it at a flea market a few decades back, but what she — and you, as you pour its contents onto your meal — might not realize is that it might not be a gravy boat at all.

On Nov. 28, 2024, Jenna Jones, a TikTok creator who specializes in 1800s history, posted a video that has folks taking a much closer look at their fine china.

Jones details the similarities between the gravy boat and the bourdaloue, a daintily decorated antique vessel that was not used for dinner, to say the least. In Jones’ terms, it’s an “18th- or 19th-century piss pot.”
