Oregon’s attorney general and Portland area district attorneys put the federal government on notice this week that they will investigate and prosecute any federal agents in the state who use force “beyond the reasonable scope of their duties.”
In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, the Oregon officials pointed to incidents in the past six months when federal agents have used munitions that struck local police, fired tear gas against nonviolent protesters outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office, endangering nearby residents, and pointed guns at teenagers at a Dutch Bros Coffee drive-thru in Hillsboro.
