BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - There’s always a little extra on the line with a rivalry matchup.
Bryan’s mayor, Bobby Gutierrez, was hoping to up the ante even further.
Gutierrez challenged his counterpart in the state capital, Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, to a friendly bet: if the Aggies’ football team defeats the Longhorns, Watson would wear an A&M jersey during the next city council meeting. If Texas wins the game, Gutierrez would do his part.
“I would graciously wear it, even though I don’t want to don’t like it,” he joked.
Watson, however, has declined the offer.
“He was very polite, and I respect that very much,” said Gutierrez. “He didn’t want to do it this time. You know, 11-0, I could understand why,” he laughed.
