Dexture Shyheme Smith, 28, of Roseboro was found guilty of first-degree murder in Duplin County Superior Court on Wednesday. He was sentenced to life in prison, plus a minimum of 73 months and a maximum of 100 months for burglary and a minimum of 14-26 months for possession of firearm by felon.
District Attorney Ernie Lee announced the verdict Wednesday afternoon. Smith “was found guilty at trial by jury of first-degree murder under each theory of malice, premeditation and deliberation and murder committed pursuant to the commission of a felony,” Lee stated in a press release.
The charges stem from the shooting of Reginald Blackmore, 51, of Warsaw, during the early morning hours of Aug. 30, 2022. Smith broke into Blackmore’s residence on Bowdens Road outside Warsaw.
