For the first time ever, GlobalFest will not have its opening night after a drastic drop in last year’s pre-ticket sales forced organizers to make financial cutbacks to the annual festival.
The funding shortfalls came in after organizers noted a drop in August’s sales for the year before, accounting for 11,000 fewer people at the festival earlier this year.
“It was the equivalent of about a quarter million dollars in revenue,” Ken Goosen, chief operating officer for the festival said.
Surveys collected from the festival goers explained a number of factor responsible for the downturn, including a slower economy, competition with other summer events and an unusually rainy summer weather.
