PHOENIX — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced Wednesday that the agency has issued a detainer on the suspect who allegedly gained access to a Phoenix elementary school and assaulted a 10-year-old girl.
The federal agency said it lodged a detainer with the Maricopa County jail for 24-year-old Abel Kai Gblah, the sex offender accused of sneaking into Orangewood Elementary School last week.
Detainers are requests submitted to law enforcement agencies to hold someone ICE wants to detain. They help notify ICE when somebody they wish to detain is about to be released from prison or jail.
