MARYSVILLE, Ohio — Law enforcement will tell you there’s no such thing as a routine traffic stop. The job carries with it dangers the public doesn’t always see.

From 2020 to 2024, 68 Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were assaulted by members of the public, according to statistics provided by the agency.

In 2020 there were 16 cases of assaults on troopers, 21 cases in 2021, 15 cases in 2022, 3 assaults in 2023 and 13 cases last year, according to OSHP statistics.

According to court documents, on Oct. 21 of this year, an OSHP trooper responded to a report of a hit‑and‑run driver in Union County.
