QUEBEC — The province’s anti-corruption unit is taking an interest in fundraising allegations involving the Quebec Liberal Party.
In a statement issued late Wednesday, a media spokesperson for the Unité permanente anticorruption (UPAC) confirmed the unit is verifying various allegations that have dominated the media for several days.
“We confirm we are in a validation process concerning allegations of reprehensible acts targeting the Liberal Party of Quebec,” UPAC said in a statement confirming an initial report in the Journal de Montréal.
UPAC stresses that its officers are not at the stage of opening a formal investigation. For the moment, officers are meeting witnesses.
