Hoping to stop radioactive waste from being released into the air above the shuttered Plymouth Nuclear Power Station, state Senator Dylan A. Fernandes (D-Plymouth and Barnstable District) and two other state legislators have filed legislation calling for a halt—at least temporarily—of such airborne discharges.
Fernandes’ legislation—which is designated as a “resolve” that calls for government action—seeks to have the evaporation of irradiated wastewater halted at the power plant until the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), along with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, has a chance to study the effects of the gases’ release on public health.
