TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College helping families out ahead of the holiday, by offering a mobile food pantry on their campus today.

Faculty member, Dr. Cathy Warner said they are giving over 7,000 lbs. of food Monday to students and anyone in the community in need.

She said they wanted to help shoulder the added costs that crop up this time of year, especially as people struggle to keep up with everyday expenses.

“We went up 30%. We began the year with between 100 and 120 families. Our last November pantry, we had 144 families come through. We have been running now for under a half an hour, and we’ve already had 80 families come through. So, the demand, the demand and the need is definitely there,” said Warner.
